Priorities
“This one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” – Philippians 3:13-14
The passion of my life is to know Christ and to make Him known. I truly believe His lovingkindness is better than life. The ministry of preaching is the main means by which I minister to the body of Christ. I preach God’s Word with the aim that it will both illumine the mind so that God might be known more clearly for who He has revealed Himself to be; and to inflame the affections so there might be an increasing passion for the fame of His Name. Sound thinking should provoke deep feelings and deep feelings should motivate sound thinking. However, high and great our view of God, He is still greater. As a pastor, I share the responsibility to keep lifting up the view of God before the people through the preached and lived Word. I believe God’s glory is the ultimate purpose of all of life. God’s glory is the theme of all of the Scripture and the passion of God Himself. His glory is most revealed in His act of redeeming a people through the atoning work of Christ. Too much of the church has fallen or drifted into a man-centered viewpoint that makes God little more than a means to some other end. He will not be the means to an end. He is the end. I am convinced that there is no greater protection to a church and no greater encouragement to a people and no greater motivation to missions and evangelism, and no greater joy enhancer than an ever-increasing view of God. I am persuaded that love for God manifests itself in love for people (especially “the least of these”). I count it a joy to lead our church family in the pursuit of the demonstrations of love that might open the door to the declaration of the truth in the lives of the people God gives us to love. None of us are loving enough and as a church family we must be encouraging and challenging one another to ever increasing levels of love to God and love for others. Those who recognize that they have received mercy from God are the ones who show mercy to one another within the church family and those who will be quick to offer mercy to people from every race and class and background of people. I want to be known as a “mercy giver” as the overflow of having been mercied so enormously by Jesus Christ.

Joe pastors Springs of Grace Bible Church. The church is involved in lots of ministries but is about one thing exclusively and Springs of Grace Bible Church is about this because God is about this. If you read the Bible looking for the purpose or mind of God behind why He does what He does you will find one consistent purpose. In fact, every place God makes clear the ultimate reason for why He is doing what He is doing it is always and without exception for His glory or for His name. From beginning to end, the driving impulse of God’s heart – the great treasure of God is God and His own great glory. From creation to consummation, His ultimate allegiance is to Himself. His unwavering purpose in all He does is to exalt the honor of His name and to be marveled at for His grace and power. He is infinitely jealous for His reputation. “For My own sake, for My own sake I act,” says the Lord. “My glory I will not give to another!”Springs of Grace Bible Church is on a mission to make His glory seen. The church is passionate about ministry to families and passionate about ministry in the inner city and passionate about ministry to the needy but believes that changing people through a social program that doesn’t get them to behold the glory of the Lord; or changing the lives of children through adoption without getting them to behold the glory of the Lord; or to discover a method of changing the lives of families in the inner city without seeing the glory of the Lord would not produce what God wants – glory seeing driven change. God wants the kind of change that comes from beholding the glory of God and that is what Springs of Grace Bible Church seeks to be about.
